Town of Poughkeepsie Brickyard BOA Plan
The Town of Poughkeepsie is preparing a Brownfield Opportunity Area (BOA) Plan for the area around Burnett Boulevard + Tucker Drive, both North and South of the Dutchess Turnpike.
The planning process will:
Evaluate existing environmental, land use, infrastructure, transportation, and market conditions;
Identify opportunities and constraints affecting future redevelopment; and
Develop strategies for environmental restoration, improved connections, and long-term reinvestment and redevelopment opportunities.
The final Brickyard BOA Plan will help the Town pursue funding, coordinate future improvements, guide public and private investment, and advance projects that reflect the needs and priorities of the community.
Known as the Brickyard BOA due to the area’s rich history, the planning process aims to establish a community-supported vision for the future of this large and complex area, shaped by its industrial history, natural features, and its relationship to surrounding neighborhoods and institutions.
What is a BOA?
A Brownfield Opportunity Area, or BOA, is a community planning effort that helps identify new possibilities for areas affected by vacant, underused, or potentially contaminated properties.
Through the BOA process, communities work together to create a vision for the area and identify opportunities for cleanup, redevelopment, new businesses, housing, recreation, open space, and other community improvements. The goal is to turn challenges into opportunities and help guide future investment in a way that reflects local priorities.
